Intercity travel
Lahore, Peshawar, the north — bus, train or fly
For Lahore and Peshawar, premium bus lines (Daewoo Express and similar) are the sweet spot: comfortable, scheduled, terminals with security. Lahore is roughly 4–5 hours by motorway.
- 1Book premium buses a day ahead on weekends and holidays.
- 2Trains connect Rawalpindi to major cities — charming but slower and less predictable; book AC class if you try it.
- 3For the far north (Gilgit, Skardu), flights are spectacular but weather-dependent — build a buffer day into any plan that includes a northern flight.
- 4The road north (Karakoram Highway) is one of the world's great drives; hire reputable drivers, travel in daylight.
Northern flights get cancelled for weather with little notice. Never book a northern flight the day before your international departure.
