Food & water safety
Eat gloriously without regretting it
Pakistani food is a highlight of the trip. A few habits keep it that way.
- 1Drink bottled or filtered water only; check the seal. Skip tap-water ice outside good restaurants and hotels.
- 2Street food strategy: choose the stall with the longest local queue and the hottest, freshest-cooked items.
- 3Ease into the spice over a few days; "kam mirch" (less chili) is a phrase worth memorizing.
- 4Fruit you peel yourself is always safe; salads outside good restaurants are the classic mistake.
Food delivery apps (Foodpanda and others) work well in Islamabad and remove all guesswork on a tired night.
If a stomach bug does hit: hydrate with ORS sachets from any pharmacy. If there's fever or it lasts beyond ~48 hours, see a doctor — Shifa and Ali Medical are in Explore.
